In the 18th century, there was one of religious prominent leaders in Indonesia especially in Java named Muhammad Sholeh bin Umar Al-Samarani or commonly known as Kiai Sholeh Darat. He greatly contributed to the spread of Islam in Indonesian archipelago because it was appropriate with his dedication that is to serve his own country. In preaching, Kiai Sholeh Darat gave ‘enlightenment thinking to the populace and also built an Islamic boarding School at Darat. Kiai Sholeh Darat was a teacher who had Indonesian army for Indonesian Independency and many students who also become an Islamic national figure as KH. Hasyim Asy’ari and KH. Ahmad Dahlan. The emancipation of women leaders from Jepara, R.A. Kartini also ever learned from him. Kiai Sholeh also loved sciences. It was proved by many scientific diciplines that he learnt and many Kitab he produced such as Munjizat (Book of psychology that was taken from ihya’ Ulumuddin by Imam Ghozali), Matan Al-Hikâm, Minhâj al-Atqiyâ’ fi Syarh Ma’rifah al-Azkiyâ’ ila Tariq al-Auliyâ’, Faid ar-Rahmân fi Tarjamah Tafsir Kalam Malik ad-Dayyân, Lathâif at-Thahârah wa asrar as-Shalâh, Majmu’ât asy-Syari’at alKafiyah lil Awâm, Manâsik al-Hajji wal Umrah and Sabîlul Âbid ala Jauharat at-Tauhîd. In addition, Kiai Sholeh Army is one scholar who popularized the development of Arabic script - Pegon in Indonesia, especially in Java.
