SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE AND SOCIAL MEDIA ORIENTATION AS A MEANS TO IMPROVE SMES INNOVATION PERFORMANCE

— The use of social media has a positive or negative impact on society, the business community is no exception. The social media platform is the main attraction for SMEs in running their businesses due to consideration of economic and efficiency aspects. Meanwhile, to take advantage of the use of social media, an SMEs is expected to have sufficient social intelligence so that the use of social media as a business tool will be very profitable. The purpose of this study is to develop two main concepts that are believed to support the use of social media to support Innovation Performance in SMEs. The two concepts are Social Media Orientation and Social Intelligence. The research method used is a literature survey to define concepts and develop measurements. The results found that Social Media Orientation is a set of online tools that are open to public membership and which supports sharing ideas, creating and editing content, and building relationships through interaction and collaboration, which can be measured by looking at the benefits of social media brought by technology, namely companies use social media to build community, connect and communicate with stakeholders to improve company performance. Whereas Social Intelligence can be defined as a person's ability to understand the feelings and behavior of others by thinking to be able to interact correctly with others and act effectively in a variety of situations, which can be measured using five indicator items, namely the ability to express themselves in social interaction, the ability to read and understand various social situations, have knowledge of norms and rules, inter-company problem solving skills and social role playing skills. Social Intelligence will facilitate Social Media Orientation which will stimulate the emergence of new ideas because of the breadth of the network being reached. Thus, in the long run, it is expected to improve SMEs Innovation Performance.
