Abstract

Environmental issue is very relevan to understanding and sustainability for research. Care to environmental for manufactures indicate can increasing environmental performance as part of business strategy. This fenomena is very interest to empirical study, especially to understand what the dominant factors that influence corporates care to environmental problems, especially to manufactures at Central Java. Second, how long application of proactive environmental management was impact on environmental performance, and the third how impact environmental drives of environmental management and proactive environmental management to environmental performance.

The population for this research are all manufacture industries in Central Java Indonesia that resistance to environmental. Number of respondent in this research are 143 company, 51 for big company and 92 for medium company. Companies category are: textil, furniture, ciggarette, wood processing, manure, printing, fish processing, pantile and medecine. Research variabel are Driving environmental management (4 indicators). Proactive environmental management (6 indicators), and Environmental performance (7 indicators). Data were collected by mail survey and interview with company leader. This research use qualitative and quantitative analysis (multiple regression and different test)

This investigation indicate that 58,9% responden little understand about environmental regulatory. Careness company for environmental are dominated by complain customer to company products and stakeholders forces driving. Environmental performance is dominated by company responsibility to environmental problems and employee involvement. Driving environmental management variable and Proactive environmental management variable have significant impact on environmental performance, and the two independent variabel have contributioan as big as 71,4% to dependent variable. Based on difference test, there are significance differences on proactive environmental management variable, especially on technology using that can minimize waste and create reuse and recycling for unuser material. From environmental performance variable, there is differences among big corporate and medium corporate to adoption model for environmental regulation and environmental careness programs.
