The objective of this article is to investigate environmental management practices /for large and medium manufacturing industries at Central Java. Enviromental management dimension focus on: the driving of enviromental management practice, proactive enviromental management practice, and performance management practice.

The population for this research are all manufactur industries in Central Java Indonesia that resistance to envirtomental problems. Number of respondent in the research are 143 company, 51 big company and 92 medium company. Companies category are : textil,furniture, cigarette, wood processing, manure, printing, fish processing, pantile and medicine. Research variabels for Driving enviromental management measured by four indicators. Proactive enviromental management measured by six indicators, and Enviromental performance measured by seven indicator. Data were collected by mail survey and interview with company leaders. This research analysis use descriptive analysis.

Enviromental concern that caused by competitive driving and regulation driving in enviromental regulations have lowest respond, it means that regulations and competition not as a priority for manufacturing industries at Central Java. For proactive enviromental management very important with produce efficient product to consumers. Internal factors are very dominant because can be controlled more easy. For external factors is more difficult to control, like: benchmarking and adoption on best practices to other company that have been success in enviromental management and foemal system to monitor enviromental regulations. All indicators of enviromental management there are significant differences for medium and large enterprise. But for proactive enviromental management there are differences, especially on technology using that can minimize waste for reause and recycle weaste, and product design.
